Swiss session at the AI Impact Summit | Breaking Barriers: Multilingual AI as a Bridge to Democratic Access

The promise of artificial intelligence cannot be realized if confined to dominant languages. Today, breakthrough AI systems overwhelmingly serve English speakers, leaving billions behind and reinforcing digital divides. This panel brings together ICAIN (International Computation and AI Network) with leading voices from Africa, Europe, and Asia to demonstrate how multilingual AI democratizes resources. This session showcases Apertus, a fully open-source multilingual AI model developed by ETH Zurich/EPFL, and its real-world applications. By exploring how collaborative networks ensure AI serves all humanity, this event connects the Paris AI Summit's Public Interest AI focus with India's democratization commitment, charting a pathway toward Geneva 2027.
