Registration and deregistration, change of address

On this page you will find information about registering in the register of the Swiss abroad, the procedure for reporting a change of address and formalities to be completed on returning to Switzerland.

If you have relocated to live abroad, the Swiss representations (embassy or consulate) will be your first point of contact for all administrative matters (registration in the register of Swiss abroad, passport, civil status, voting rights etc.).

Your place of residence abroad is assigned to the consular district of a Swiss representation. Regular contact between you and the Swiss representation can be very helpful for both. It is mandatory for Swiss nationals resident abroad to register with a Swiss representation. A register of the Swiss abroad is maintained for this purpose.
